Two days of Open House at Anna’s for members of the Grange Singers, Dovercourt Choral Society and the Harwich Society. The invitation was to sew together knitted squares to form blankets to be taken to Kosovo by the Hope & Aid Direct charity (http://www.hopeandaiddirect.org.uk/) who work closely with the Mother Teresa Society in the Balkans. The temperature has dropped to -22 degrees in the region, and donations of wool for knitting or crocheting into squares for more blankets will be appreciated.
The Mayoress, Eleanor Brown, was joined by sewing friends, including the former Mayor and Mayoress, Steph & Eileen Tyrer, whose association with aid to the Balkans goes back to 1999 at the start of the Kosovo conflict. Multi-coloured blankets have been produced over these two Open House Days with the aid of coffee & cake and home-made bread & cheese snacks to keep them going. (Anna Rendell-Knights)
