Rayleigh Town Museum group at Ha'Penny Pier with Town Crier James Cole
16 Oct 2015
47 members of the Rayleigh Town Museum Group were shown around Harwich on Friday by Harwich Society guides as the group enjoyed their first ever fund raising coach trip.
The Rayleigh Town Museum Group is establishing a new town museum in Rayleigh as a result of a £90,000 Lottery grant and is fund raising to raise additional money ahead of the opening of the museum. The organiser of the coach trip, Mike Davies, had heard the Harwich Society’s vice chairman, David Whittle, give a talk at the Essex Tourism and Leisure Show and as a result chose Harwich as the destination for the group’s first coach trip.
Mike Davies says, “I was very impressed by David Whittle’s talk and our group were incredibly impressed by Harwich and the remarkable guides from the Harwich Society. From the moment we were greeted by the Town Crier to the moment our coach pulled away it was a truly lovely day. Many of our members are already planning to visit Harwich again next summer when hopefully the weather will be kinder!”
Harwich Society chairman, Colin Farnell, says, “It is lovely to learn that our visitors from Rayleigh came to Harwich as a result of one of David Whittle’s talks. The Harwich Society works hard to bring visitors to our town where our guides then bring Harwich to life for them. It takes a lot of time and effort but Harwich is worth it!”
