Press release - Essex Heritage Trust holds AGM in Harwich
Historic Harwich became the centre of attention for the Essex Heritage Trust last week as 50 of its members including the Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Jennifer Tolhurst, and the Mayor of Chelmsford, Cllr. Bob Massey, attended its AGM at the 1912 Centre.
The Harwich Society and Harwich Town Council ensured that the visitors saw much of the town prior to the meeting and Harwich Society guides were on hand to give a walking tour that included visits to St Nicholas Church, the Guildhall and Christopher Jones’ house.
Harwich Society chairman, Colin Farnell, says, “We were delighted that the Essex Heritage Trust chose to hold its AGM in Harwich and took the opportunity to show its members why Harwich is so special. They clearly enjoyed all that they saw and were obviously very impressed.”
Following the AGM the members were treated to an illustrated talk on the history of Harwich’s lighthouses by the Harwich Society’s vice chair, David Whittle.
“By the end of the evening we were being approached by individual members seeking to bring their own groups back to Harwich for a visit which was particularly pleasing,” continued Colin Farnell. “As always, Historic Harwich was the star of the show and we were only too please to assist in the performance!”
